Not surprisingly, there wasn’t much in the way of news over the past week. But I still found some good stuff. Hope everyone had a nice holiday.
Director Irvin Kershner died this past weekend at the age of 87. The man directed Sean Connery in the James Bond film Never Say Never Again and also directed Robocop 2. Kershner is probably best known as the director of The Empire Strikes Back. Thank you, Mr. Kershner, for giving us a glimpse of what Star Wars could have been. It is by far my favorite of the Star Wars movies and never fails to fill me with a sense of wonder every time I watch it.
Mark Millar, the master of teasing projects, revealed that he and Dave Gibbons will be getting together for a comic book project in 2011. The details of the project were not given and Millar stated he would be discussing the project at the Kapow! Comic Con, which Millar is hosting at the London Business Design Centre on April 9-10, 2011. In addition to Millar and Gibbons, Frank Quitely and Paul Cornell will be at the Con with more expected to be announced later. I am betting the Millar/Gibbons book will be creator-owned but Millar’s announcement is carefully worded enough for the pair to be on a high profile book for DC or Marvel as well. Time will tell.
