Best Covers of the Day – Wednesday, Oct. 15

The unintentional comedy value in this week’s comic book covers is VERY high, my friends, and it spans all areas of the four-color spectrum. Marvel, DC, everyone else… prepare to be LAMPOONED.

Moon Knight #23

I didn’t really pay this cover any mind at first. It’s your basic Bullseye shooting at a target, giving you the evil grin type deal. What occurred to me as I looked a second time is that Bullseye is a really terrible shot! He’s got bullets going all over the place!

Do me a favor, wiseguy. Try AIMING at the Moon Knight poster before you pose in front of it proudly. Because what you’re really saying is, "Look at me! I can’t shoot worth a lick!"

Alan Moore’s PICTOPIA!

This rare comic by writer Alan Moore was originally published by Fantagraphics in 1986 for their Anything Goes! Benefit. Some consider it to be one of Moore’s best works and though not in print (it was reprinted in 2003 in "The Extraordinary Works of Alan Moore" interview book) and therefore no longer available it was scanned on a recent Livejournal Blog and those that are interested in the comic can read it there.

I don’t normally support scans of comics on the web, but, since you cannot get the story anymore and there are no plans to reproduce it, I take a higher stand of not letting good art of any kind remain buried and unloved.

So you get my permission to cheat here.

I cannot believe I’ve never heard about this comic strip until the other day. I thought I was pretty up to speed on almost all of Moore’s works.

Enjoy, my Heathens!
